Former child pop sensation Aaron Carter is dead. The 34-year-old’s body was discovered on November 5 at his home in Los Angeles. According to reports, he was found unresponsive in a bath.
The ‘I Want Candy’ singer’s brother, Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, shared his heartbreak over his brother’s untimely death. “My heart has been broken today,” the 42-year-old wrote on social media. “Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded. I have always held onto the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed.” In an appearance on The Doctors in 2019, Aaron admitted that he suffered from multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety and manic depression, and that he struggled with addiction issues, too. That same year, Nick filed a restraining order against his brother, alleging Aaron had thoughts of killing his wife.
Despite his dark troubles, when news of his death broke, stars wanted to celebrate the good times they shared with him, like Hilary Duff, who dated the singer when their stars were on the rise. “I’m deeply sorry that life was so hard for you and that you had to struggle in front of the whole world,” Duff wrote in a post to Instagram. “You had a charm that was absolutely effervescent … boy did my teenage self love you deeply.” Aaron is survived by his son Prince, 11 months, and on-again, off-again fiancée, Melanie Martin.
